Blue Legs

Installed in a fabricated ice fishing hut and filmed on location in a shipyard, an aquarium and aboard a trawler in Oslofjord, the work traverses the sites and surfaces of maritime industry. Alongside more visible markers of the fishing industry, the video also turns to the former Fisheries School in Baltimore, an Industrial Boys School (est. 1886), where the boys were known colloquially as 'blue legs'. The artwork considers the overlapping histories of the ocean as a fraught space where extractive practices continue to instrumentalise both human and nonhuman lives, in the enduring time of marine ecosystem damage and global fish population depletion.
